Your photographs and your location stay on your device. GeoNishaan has no server and no account, so we never receive your data. There are two exceptions — the street-address lookup and the map tile — and we want you to read about both.
What the app collects
GeoNishaan is a camera that writes location and time information onto the photographs you take. Everything below is held on your phone.
| Information | Why | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Precise location (GPS) | To stamp coordinates, accuracy, altitude and direction onto your photograph | On your device — inside the photograph and the app's local records |
| Approximate location | Used when a precise fix is not yet available | Same as above |
| Photographs you take | They are the purpose of the app | Saved to your gallery and the app's own records |
| Text you type (visit purpose, notes, organisation name) | To label your own work | Stored on your device only |
| Map images for the stamp tile | To show where the photograph was taken | Inside the photograph and a temporary cache on your phone |
What the app does not do
- No account, no sign-in, no registration.
- No advertising and no advertising identifiers.
- No analytics, no usage tracking, no crash reporting to us.
- We do not upload your photographs anywhere.
- We do not sell or share your information with anyone.
- The app never reads your location while it is closed or in the background. Location is read only while the camera screen is open.
When the app uses the network — please read this
Two features send your coordinates off the device. Nothing else does, and neither sends your photographs.
Street addresses
When the app turns your coordinates into a street address, it asks Android's own geocoding service to do it. On most phones that service is provided by Google and the request leaves your device over the internet. Your coordinates are sent so that an address can be returned. It is handled by the Android operating system rather than by us, so it is covered by Google's privacy policy. We never see the request or its result.
The map tile
The small map drawn beside the stamp is a real map. When it is switched on, the app asks the Google Maps Static API for a map image of your position, and your coordinates are sent to Google so that image can be returned. Google handles the request under Google's privacy policy and the Google Maps Platform Terms. We never see it. Images are kept in a temporary cache on your phone for up to 30 days so that returning to the same place does not repeat the request.
If you would rather send nothing, turn off Show the locator tile in Stamp Settings. No map request is then made at any time. Your photographs are still stamped with coordinates, accuracy, date and time exactly as before, and the tile is replaced by a simple pattern drawn on your phone.
If you prefer no network activity at all, turn off mobile data and Wi-Fi. The app will continue to work and will stamp coordinates; only the street address line and the map imagery will be missing.
Permissions the app asks for
| Permission | What it is used for |
|---|---|
CAMERA |
Taking photographs. Used only while the camera screen is open. |
ACCESS_FINE_LOCATIONACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION |
Reading your position so it can be stamped onto the photograph. Foreground only. |
VIBRATE |
The optional shutter tick. |
USE_BIOMETRIC |
Only if you switch on the optional app lock. |
INTERNET |
The street address lookup and the map tile described above. |
| Storage | Saving your photographs and exported PDF files, on older Android versions. |
You may refuse location access. The app will still take photographs; the stamp will simply say that no fix was available.
Keeping and deleting your data
Everything the app holds lives on your phone, and you are in control of it:
- Delete individual photographs or whole visits inside the app.
- Delete exported files from your gallery or file manager as you would any other file.
- Cached map images are discarded automatically after 30 days, and clearing the app's cache in Android settings removes them at once.
- Uninstalling the app removes its records from your device.
Because we never receive your data, there is nothing for us to delete on your behalf and no request you need to send us.
Children
